Innerface - Charles Rullman Title: Growing Sunlight on an Empty Branch Style: ....Media Type: CD Catalog Number: CAY0004 Cash Price: $12.00 Review: Keywords: "Buried in the darker and more mysterious elements of this album is a subtle humor that is reflective of Zen stories - yet has a western twist. A strong rhythmic element drives all of these pieces and provides an energizing setting for the more refined sound textures that twist within it. The heart warming "If There Were Any Other Way" is a high point of Zen humor and solo work whose simplicity is both deceptive and intriguing while "Never Had A Chance" dashes one to the depths of some forbidden waste land whose humor is of a much darker dimension, letting the mind explore new territory. "Love Betrays Us Some" is a jewel of intimacy whose dimensions measure our own experiences in life and beyond. "Plenty Left Unsaid" is a saucy bit of rhythm and humor that won't let go and brings laughter and tears closer together.." |

Innerface - Charles Rullman Title: Paper Tiger Style: ....Media Type: CD Catalog Number: CAY0003 Cash Price: $12.00 Review: " Charles gives DJ Spooky a run for his money on this latest release. Some truly illbient poetry on "You Were Here" - Dali'esqe guitars warp and bend in time while melting organ and electric piano chords wrap themselves around his whispered words. "The Wrath of Time" makes its presence known right from the start, then draws you into a wild wormhole ride through the spoken poem. One witnesses the true essence of time in this piece - forward, backward, fast, slow, and some other properties that haven't been discovered yet! "Would make an Angel Blush" revels in a funky trip hop beat that mutates into an electro tour de force, finally combining the two styles towards the end. "Speaking for the Truth" and "On the Tip of the Tounge" close out the album with still more out-there-ill-grooves than you can squeze into the space on the CD. This is Innerface's most Outre album, while at the same time his most musically accessible. Bravo!! Hopefully, Charles will get some sound clips posted soon at: http://jan.ucc.nau.edu/~cr6/ A definite Luba Pick!!" Keywords: |

Innerface - Charles Rullman Title: Ice Cubes Melting Style: ....Media Type: CD Catalog Number: CAY0002 Cash Price: $12.00 Review: "The words to this Album have a particular "bite" that some folks will find stimulating and even funny . The music supports this in many unusual ways. The use of an Aeolian Harp in "If Motorcycles Had Wings" brings a subtle edge to the texture and the souds of a beautiful mountain stream in "Good To The Last Drop" provide a meditative feeling that integrates the hypnotic flow around it. The Digital "Cello" in "Nature's Ultimate Freak" brings a raw power to an otherwise rather tame environment and reflects the hidden meaning contained in the words. In this CD, InnerFace continues to explore areas of consciousness that will bring satisfaction to many people. Innerface - Charles Rullman Title: Heaven's Gate Style: ....Media Type: CD Catalog Number: CAY0001 Cash Price: $12.00 Review: "From the experimental opening number containing street sounds from Telluride, CO to the serenly floating "Floating In Surrealistic Air" to the high energy and hypnotic "The Threads Of Separation" this album is the latest exploration of mind and music consciousness by InnerFace. The use of the Waldorf Q Synthesizer brings a new depth to the sounds and the recorded voice is manipulated through a Korg KAOSS pad for many interesting effects. A lot of variety for those souls with a thirst for such things and enjoy the many surprises along the way! Listen and see for yourself. Sound clips: http://jan.ucc.nau.edu/~cr6/" Keywords: |

A delicate interplay between the two that is very relaxing and unique. Anyone who loves the mountains and particularly the streams would love this one! Innerface - Charles Rullman Title: The Last Supper Style: ....Media Type: CD Catalog Number: CAY9902 Cash Price: $12.00 Review: " Some VERY interesting albums from Spoken Word / Performance Artist Charles Rullman. At first listen, you might think "If Laurie Anderson was a man..." but there is much more going on here. Some extremely well crafted sound sculptures support Rullman's poetry, and he is not afraid to manipulate his vocalizations, either, and they are slowed down, reversed, sped up, and overlaid on top of the supporing soundtracks. The Last Supper is a bit more meditative, with Xylophone passages similar to Ms. Anderson's work, and synth work similar to Vidna Obmana at times. Innerface - Charles Rullman Title: Carnival Ride Style: ....Media Type: CD Catalog Number: CAY9901 Cash Price: $12.00 Review: "Carnival Ride is a bit more experimental, and warped Calliope and Music box sounds abound. Very Coil like at times (think Hellraiser era). Carnival sounds are distorted, manipulated, mad tunes played backwards and forward. If you nomally shy away from spoken word offerings, I strongly recommend you check these out! There's a hint of the Beat Poet, a hint of "Classic" audio manipulations, (think Vercoe with a more modern sensiblility of composition) and a whole lot of interesting electronic backgrounds. Charles wrote me that his main interest was in performance, and that he has only recently begun to preserve these performances on CD. I'm glad he did! Check out some Real Audio files of his work (especially Butcher's Block !!) at: http://jan.ucc.nau.edu/~cr6/" Keywords: |

Innerface - Charles Rullman Title: Main Frame Style: ....Media Type: CD Catalog Number: CAY9802 Cash Price: $12.00 Review: "Charles Rullman brings us more spoken word mixed in with some of the most beautiful, experimental electronic sounds you will ever encounter, on these or any other pages. Vocal manipulations predominate, and he even turns coughing and laughing into a backdrop on "Frivolities of Life". Always introspective, his words are well chosen throughout ("Immigrants, all of us, I say") and the space betweeen the purely musical passages are always punctuated by the poetry at the right moment. A consistently gorgeous and intrigueing album, this one is my personal favorite of the four. If you have any leanings toward experimental music, Vocal manipulation, or modern spoken word performance - you MUST pick this up right now!" Keywords: |

Innerface - Charles Rullman Title: Looking Over the Edge Style: ....Media Type: CD Catalog Number: CAY9801 Cash Price: $12.00 Review: "On this excursion, Charles uses the electronics in a grand, dramatic scale. The opening cut "In The Beginning" starts with a full orchestral theme which dissipates into brainwaves, while the second track delves into deep, echoey ambiences; pinging flashes of memory and light float all around you as the voices beckon you to the "Entrance to the Ring". "The Magical Child" is enveloped in pure computer generated sine tones and cascades, reminds me of Stockhausen's "Kontakt" and other early classical, experimental electronic works of the 70's - simply stunning work here. The final, title track "Looking over the Edge" ends the album on a peaceful, introspective excursion; the music continually draws you to the lip of the precipice, where billowing winds blow through your thoughts. Grab this one, along with Main Frame (below), for a truly unique sonic excursion!" Keywords: |
